My college misadventures: You're Not a Frat Star. You're Not Even a Brother.
I feel embarrassed for high school kids that think they’re so “srat” or so “frat” when they don’t really even know what greek life is about. I don’t even care if you’re a legacy looking to rush. If you are taking all your srat/frat inspiration from that TFM website, then you’re looking at the wrong place. Not all the stuff on that website is to be taken seriously, you’re just going to look like a little douche bag, and give greek life a bad reputation.
Hard to believe from reading this blog, but I joined a sisterhood for the friendships and the bonds, for the people and the long term connections and a chance to be something bigger in college. What you don’t see on this blog is when I help set up activities, go to fun events, go to sisterhoods, when I bond with my girls, and build friendships with brothers of different orgs through playing intramural sports, and how much I love my lineage. These are memories I will cherish my whole life, not that one time I got shit faced and don’t fully remember. I didn’t join for the parties, I think they’re fun, but when I rushed, they honestly weren’t on my mind at all. How great the sisters were, how cool the activities, how cute the pictures were, how amazing the next four years of my life could be, and how I saw my home away from home with these girls for the rest of my college years were what occupied my mind…
Sure, I very much like jcrew, my pearls, and my sperry’s, but even if I didn’t wear those things, I would still belong. Even if I don’t rage like the stereotypical image of a sorority girl the media has put in many people’s minds, I am still a sister…
Reblog if you miss your sisters!
