My Sacred Things: WE DID IT!

mysacredthings:

The Theta Gamma chapter of Chi Omega is GRANTING A WISH!!

Mark your calendars - April 6th is the day that we make a wonderful and beautiful child’s dreams come true.

Thank you to everyone who donated, reblogged, or even read this. I never thought I’d be a part of something so much bigger than myself, or than my small chapter of sisters. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is truly incredible and it’s a gift to serve them!

To all my sisters - I am so proud to stand beside you. You make me a better person every day and I couldn’t be more humbled by the hard work and dedication that you put in every day!

Help us Grant a Wish!!

mysacredthings:

My chapter of Chi Omega is less than $1000 away from granting a wish to a child in the Charlotte area who is suffering through a life-threatening medical condition.

Every wish costs $6000 and our small chapter of 40 girls has worked hard for years and years to get this close!

Any little bit helps - please help us change the life of a sweet child!!

The Colour To Your City.: I love the fact that I live in a houseful of girls who I didn’t know...

nmazmi:

I love the fact that I live in a houseful of girls who I didn’t know up until 3 months ago and I can walk down the hallway of our home and talk to any of them. I’ve been integrated into one of the most supportive and loving groups of people I could imagine and I’m so grateful for their presence in…

Anon asked:

I have no idea how the whole sorority thing works. When you are rushing, how do you know where to go? Does it cost a lot to be in a sorority? How much time does it take out of your life? So the houses put “bids” on you. What if you don’t get picked to join one? No one picks you? I’m not sure I understand!

  1. When you are rushing, how do you know where to go? Well, first of all, make sure you sign up for formal recruitment at your school. You’ll know when it is, I promise. There will be facebook wall posts, and signs all over wherever you live.  At my school the first day of recruitment, we were put in Pi Chi groups.  At my school, there were ten of us in a group, and we had two Pi Chis each.  (also, chi is pronounced like the word guy, but with a k instead of a g) A Pi Chi is a sorority woman who disaffiliates from her sorority to help potential new members through the recruitment process.  She doesn’t talk to her sisters about recruitment, and you won’t know what sorority she belongs to. She will make sure your rush group, and you, get to each round on time.  Also, if you’re having trouble making decisions, she’s the perfect person to talk to, because everything stays confidential.  Each round will be at a different place for each sorority, at my school we had them in different rooms (we don’t have greek housing) but at some schools I’m pretty sure the rounds are at the houses.
  2. Does it cost a lot to be in a sorority? It can cost a lot or a little, depending on certain things. Every sorority is different, some are really expensive as far as dues go, and some aren’t. During recruitment, there will be a round where they explain the money situation, and where it goes.  You have to remember it goes towards your house, events, t shirts, and then things that your sorority does on the national level, such as magazines, things like that. It’s not crazy expensive when you realize all that you’re getting. And you won’t have to pay when you’re not at school.
  3. How much time does it take out of your life?  This one is COMPLETELY up to you. You will have chapter meetings once a week, and maybe study hall hours, depending on your grades, but the rest is up to you. You can be completely involved, and go to everything, and it will keep you busy, and take up a lot of your time. But you could also be not as involved. Once you get to college you’re going to realize you have a ton of free time, and most events won’t be during class time, they’ll be around seven at night, or weekends.  You can also choose to volunteer to do things for comm. service, events, and things like that. It really is all up to you on that one.
  4. What if you don’t get picked to join one? No one picks you? Although this is a possibility, it is a very small one.  You may not get invited back to your top choice, but I believe everything happens for a reason. I myself had a really good experience with an organization at my school (not Chi Omega) and really wanted them.  I didn’t get invited back to their second round, and I was upset, but I continued through, and ended up talking to some girls that were more like me at the next few rounds, and falling in love with a sorority that I originally thought I didn’t want. If you don’t get picked by anyone at all,  (I really really really don’t think this will happen, so don’t stress please!!) you can always try recruitment next year, and there is also spring recruitment for sororities that don’t make their quota (get their max amount of girls they wanted) and it’s more informal, which some girls like more. If you still don’t get in to one, there are a ton of other organizations on your campus that I’m sure you’ll like, like intramurals and things like that, and maybe you’ll become close to sisters through those and clubs..

Honestly, going Chi O (and going greek) was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you look at my earlier post, it makes a difference in AND out of school.  It’s a lifetime bond, and so worth it. I know I probably didn’t do your questions justice, because I go to a really small school, and bigger schools might be different, but I tried. If you have any more questions, let me know! (and you can totally message me off anon if you want me to answer privately!!)
